Browser of desktop?

"The wave of the future is not web browser applications. Instead we're coming full circle back to desktop applications, but this time we've broken the old idea of single user silo applications with no connection to the outside world. The wave of the future is lightweight desktop applications with the same massively networked, Web 2.0 behavior we've come to expect from browser applications. iTunes is a classic example of this, with both an offline component available all the time, and a seamlessly integrated online component available when connected."

“So here’s a challenge to the daily papers: stop giving away the franchise. Make daily editorial available online only for subscribers. Charge for the fresh stuff, online as well as off.”

“In a perfect old media world, that’s exactly how it would work. But this ain’t a perfect old media world, and if the papers start walling their fresh content off, a hundred online-only publications will happily take their place. Everyone- bloggers, new media, advertisers- would benefit from the trickle down news effect, except the papers.”

"It’s a utility in terms of a tool for the 24 million Facebook users, but it also reflects Facebook’s desire to become a utility, like an power company, in which potentially billions of people use the service in their personal and professional lives. Facebook, MySpace, and other growing colonies of linked communities with semi-permeable walls represent the rise of the social Web and Web utility companies."

  • Kies aan rechterkant 'Transform to RSS feed' en klik Go

  • Vul je Hyves usernameen password in

  • Kies 'Wat' als Item Title

  • Kies 'Wanneer' en 'Waar' als Item Text

  • Update input

Nummer of album?

"On iTunes, an individual can aggregate music by creating a mix, thus creating an album. While consumers do highly value the freedom to buy individual songs, they also still value discovering songs that go well together in a bundle."

PICNIC'07 gelanceerd

"And as a result we were basically faced with the challenge of having to develop a whole new set of classroom norms that worked in this environment. Once we got that going, everyone got much more comfortable with the environment. By the end of the semester, people were really enjoying it."

"While some Net pundits have quickly dismissed Fortune 500 interest in virtual worlds as mere marketing hype, it’s projects like these which suggest that high tech companies are serious about their potential to transform the Internet."

"For many of these ultraconnected artists, it seems the nature of creativity itself is changing. It is no longer a solitary act: their audiences are peering over their shoulders as they work, offering pointed comments and suggestions. When OK Go released its treadmill-dancing video on YouTube, it quickly amassed 15 million views, a number so big that it is, as Kulash, the singer, told me, slightly surreal. “Fifteen million people is more than you can see,” he said. “It’s like this big mass of ants, and you’re sitting at home in your underpants to see how many times you’ve been downloaded, and you can sort of feel the ebb and flow of mass attention.” Fans pestered him to know what the band’s next video would be; some even suggested the band try dancing on escalators. Kulash was conflicted. He didn’t want to be known just for making goofy videos; he also wanted people to pay attention to OK Go’s music. In the end, the band decided not to do another dance video, because, as Kulash concluded, “How do you follow up 15 million hits?” All the artists I spoke to made a point of saying they would never simply pander to their fans’ desires. But many of them also said that staying artistically “pure” now requires the mental discipline of a ninja."

Hoezo privacy?

"Cluztr tracks your clickstream and shares it with the world. Every site you visit is recorded and posted live to the Cluztr site in a social bookmarking style format, but without the need for active involvement; a Firefox plugin does it automatically. The wealth of data has benefits outside of letting people watch. Content matching links users with similar clickstreams and creates site recommendations based on user history. Cluztr is also a chat platform. Cluztr users visiting a particular page are automatically displayed in the sidebar allowing discussions on the topic at hand."

Skoeps is leuk

Iemand?

“Personalization, including targeted ads, is a mixed blessing: on one hand, personalized information is more useful and relevant to our lives. On the other, it reduces the opportunities for unanticipated encounters with ideas, people or products that may disturb or enlighten us. Personalization also interferes with the development of common experiences that people can use to understand each other and make common decisions.”

"And while I suppose there are those who might debate whether MMO play constitutes productive activity or not, it does seem clear that the skills one develops via participation in MMOs might be hugely relevant to other types of virtual organizations."

Publieke omroep is echt overbodig

Vooral zelf ook even lezen.

"Those of us in so-called old media have also learned the hard way what this new meaning of networking spells for our businesses. Media companies don't control the conversation anymore, at least not to the extent that we once did. The big hits of the past were often, if not exactly flukes, then at least the beneficiaries of limited options. Of course a film is going to be a success if it's the only movie available on a Saturday night. Similarly, when three networks divided up a nation of 200 million, life was a lot easier for television executives. And not so very long ago most of the daily newspapers that survived the age of consolidation could count themselves blessed with monopolies in their home cities."

Iedereen barcodes scannen, eindelijk(?)

"I think we've blogged already that when they launched these in Japan on the NTT DoCoMo network, in 18 months, 54% of the total phone user base had started to use the 2D barcode scanner on their phones. It is that compelling. It is like magic, you can get web addresses appearing on your phone with no typing. Who cares how small and cumbersome the phone keypad is, 2D barcodes allow the phone to be BETTER than a personal computer, in entering web addresses. Now we only use the cameraphone and point to the square that looks like a fingerprint"

Mobieltje, UMPC of laptop?

"Even so, the market Intel aims for doesn't exist yet, though interest is beginning to grow, albeit sparingly, around ultra-mobile PCs, for which Silverthorn would be suitable. Cool and innovative as the concepts connected to Silverthorn may be, a new market would have to grow out of nowhere over the course of three or four years to get anywhere near Otellini's stated goals."

Eenzaamheid vermijden

I have observed that a lot of active CEO types have a similar kind of obsession that allows them to invest more than average amounts of energy into communities including their companies and their partners - afraid to spend a minute of their waking time not interacting with other people. I think this obsession with trying not to be lonely has also fueled a lot of my interest in social software and online games.

Nederlandse Second Life onzin?

"That Dell chose Ubuntu wasn't much of a surprise, since Dell founder and CEO Michael Dell had already announced that he is running that distribution on his home laptop. Michael Dell is currently using Ubuntu 7.04 on an extremely well-equipped Dell Precision M90. His system uses an Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 Processor, which runs at 2.33GHz and comes with a 4MB cache. It also comes with 4GB of DDR2 (double-data-rate) 667MHz DRAM, a 17-inch WXGA+ wide-screen LCD, a 160GB 7,200-rpm SATA hard drive, a 8X DVD +/- RW optical drive, and a NVIDIA Quadro FX 3500 512M graphics card."
