Denk dat meesten vorige week wel gelezen hebben over Watson, de IBM supercomputer die twee Jeopardy experts wist te verslaan. Dat is oud nieuws dus, maar bij O'Reilly proberen ze inzichtelijk te maken wat deze ontwikkeling kan betekenen voor de toekomst van de slimme machines en hoe die ons kunnen helpen met van alles en nog wat. Nou heb ik in het verleden al het nodige gedaan met min of meer slimme chatbots (Eccky) die al dan niet de Turing-test konden doorstaan, maar dit gaat toch een stapje verder.
"Now that we can build machines that can answer tough and ambiguous questions, the next step is to realize that the answer to a question isn't the end of the process. What characterizes human thought isn't the ability to produce answers, but the process that leads up to the answer: assembling and evaluating alternatives, both internally and in conversation with others. So when we're thinking about Watson, we need to ask what we can do with the information that led up to answer."
